Day Old Poi
December 28th, 2010 § 1 Comment
(Sorry I haven’t posted in a while.
I have been really busy with the holidays and all that jazz. )
Okay so I took this picture because of Day Old Poi by Bu Lai’a. I might be the only one who knows about this song…but it is so hilarious.
Apparently poi is an acquired taste, and I haven’t acquired it yet. Haha. Its made from the root of taro and its usually a purple color. The consistency is like smooth wallpaper paste. When it’s first made it the sweetest it will ever be because every day after that it gets a bit sour. But it is not sweet, it is pretty bland, even from the beginning.
My family eats more East Coast style since my mother is from Virginia so I wasn’t brought up on the Hawaiian diet. That’s probably why I don’t like poi.
Do you like poi? What do you like about it?

Modeling for Amaryllis of Hawaii
December 16th, 2010 § 1 Comment
Today was so much fun! I was modeling for Amaryllis of Hawaii at Ho’okipa this morning! It was gorgeous and Judi Riley took the pictures! She is a natural photographer.

Marilyn Jansen is the creator and even though I’ve only met her twice, she is super nice and really personable. She paints and silk screens her own tshirts. She has written books, from coloring to cooking and even gardening! She is super creative! It’s awesome to have so many artsy people here!

Anyway so check out her website at www.amaryllisofhawaii.com and see for yourself!!

Super Swell…kinda
December 12th, 2010 § 1 Comment
Yeah just decided to do a quick post….I’m not dead! Lol just taking a little break from the online world. I’ll do my best to post as much as I can.
Anyway so this week was full of mishaps. So last Friday, I fell and scraped my leg up. It was pretty sore and still is over a week later. Then on Wednesday I slammed my left hand in the door of my car. That was pretty painful. This Friday I tripped up the stairs and hurt my toe. Haha anyway, I suggest taking things slooooow. If you live on Maui and are trying to rush around, don’t. It’s Maui! Mostly everyone is pretty relaxed. Just take a deep breath and then go. Take it moment by moment sometimes.
So Wednesday there was an awesome swell, north shore. Ho’okipa got pretty big, I have a picture from that day….
….and also a video….
You might think, “Wow! she goes to Ho’okipa a lot!” Well, yes I do. It’s like 10 min. away from my house. I love surfing there when the waves are good. =) Might even go surfing today…
I want to go to Makena soon though, so you will hopefully get some pictures of a different beach soon!
Iao Valley – Fun Fun Fun!
December 7th, 2010 § 1 Comment
You know what is so much fun to do in Maui? Hike Iao Valley!
It’s historical, full of life, and really scenic…I’m not sure how many people know about it, my mom was saying that she didn’t think that Iao Valley got much exposure. Well, I am gonna make it widely known! haha.
Iao Valley is a state park and the state keeps it really gorgeous! Except the economy has made them have to charge for parking if you are not Kamaaina (resident). But the 5 dollars would be worth it to me! There is a Nature Center that was open but its closed right now, which is sad.
But you can walk around the gardens and even eat at a Cafe that is right next to the Nature Center! Yum yum!
SO next time you are thinking of something to do on a crystal clear day, go up and experience Iao Valley!
Now I took way to many pictures so I’m only gonna post a couple here. I am posting the rest on FB…
Check out Maui Love Blog on Facebook!

Have a great day everyone!
Maui’s Most Festive Holiday Event! Saturday, Dec. 4 2010
December 1st, 2010 § 3 Comments
Wondering what to do this weekend? Well, I am happy to tell you all about this awesome event that has happened every year now for 25 years! The Haleakala Waldorf School’s Holiday Faire! Looking for unique gifts for this holiday season? Look no further!
There will be crafts for sale, crafts to do, delicious food, and fun for the whole family!
I like it because you get to see a lot of the crafters of Maui. We have some amazing creative people here.
Also, I love to hear the local bagpipe band play! I used to play the tenor drum in the Isle of Maui Pipe Band and they are going to be playing this year also! I’m not sure when but usually it’s in the morning right when it begins.
It opens its gates at 9am and is finished by 4pm. And all you early birds out there will be happy to know that the general admission is free from 9am-11am!
For more information visit www.waldorfmaui.org!
Hope to see you there!

Hawaii Danger #1: Portuguese Man o’ War
November 28th, 2010 § 2 Comments
So I was at the beach yesterday and I came across this most familiar but unpleasant sight.
I don’t know that much about them, all I know is that their sting hurts really bad and they come when the wind blows onshore. Yeah, I got to teach my little brothers about them so they won’t get hurt when they see one again. Here are a couple websites that might be helpful if you want to learn more!
We saw 3 on the beach that day! If you ever see one, DONT pick it up! Even though the bubble is harmless, the clearish blue tentacles could be wrapped around it or close nearby!
Happy Thanksgiving!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!
I know I shouldn’t be posting today but I have some time this morning. I wanted to share with you all a song that I heard when I was little…
(Tune of The More We Get Together the Happier We’ll Be)
Gobble, gobble, gobble, fat turkey, fat turkey!
Gobble, gobble, gobble, fat turkeys are we.
We’re not here for living,
We’re here for thanksgiving!
Gobble, gobble, gobble, fat turkeys are we.
Now if you can’t get the tune right, here is a video link to what it’s supposed to sound like… (I have no clue who these people are, I just know they know how the tune goes. )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBqQnzhlAkY
So anyway today I woke up to this…
Yay! A thanksgiving rainbow!
So I want to ask you all a question….What are you most thankful for this year? I am most thankful for my Father in heaven and my Ohana. =)
Have a blessed thanksgiving!
